Monique Stearns passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2016 peacefully in her home with her family by her side.
Monique was born April 28, 1959 in Castro Valley, California and was the fourth child to her Italian and French parents, Angelo and Yvette Gregoris, who immigrated to California in 1955. She was their first child born in America.
The Family moved to Oakdale California in 1972 and Monique became a country girl, enjoying all the aspects of living on a farm. She was involved with the Oakdale High School FFA program and participated in many FFA activities and Stanislaus County Fair livestock shows. She was also very passionate about her horse, Chocolate Chip. She enjoying riding Chip around the property weekly, and daily during the summer months. She and Chip even tested the rodeo circuit of barrel racing throughout her high school years.
Monique graduated from Oakdale High School in 1977 and attended Modesto Jr College. A job opportunity presented itself at Oakdale Village Drug Store, working in the pharmacy department with customer service responsibilities. She later acquired her pharmaceutical technician certificate and worked in the pharmacy for nearly 20 years as a pharmaceutical technician. It was during this time that she became friends with Karen Chipponeri (Stearns) and through that connection met the man who would become her husband, Marty Stearns.
Marty and Monique were married on May 13, 1989 in Oakdale, where they made their first home together. While living in Oakdale they brought into this world their two sons, Guy Martin Stearns and Frank Lee Stearns.
Marty and Monique made the decision to pack up their family and move to Smith Valley in 1999. Putting her pharmaceutical technician career on hold, she became a full-time "Mom" for her two boys. She was able to watch her boys grow as they attended Smith Valley Elementary School and graduate from Smith Valley High School. She was their cheerleader at every football, basketball, and baseball games. She would always be on the sidelines encouraging them to do their best and play with upmost fairness against the competing teams. She was their "nurse" for any injury that may have occurred as a result of their sport activities.
Monique was a devoted wife to Marty and loving mother to Guy and Frank. She was not only there for them, but other family members and friends. Her strong character, laughter and smiles will be missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Angelo and Yvette Gregoris. She is survived by her husband, Martin Stearns; Her sons, Guy Stearns and Frank Stearns. Brothers and sisters; Gerard (LorAnne) Gregoris of Smith Valley, Nicole Gregoris of Oakdale CA, Michel Gregoris of Smith Valley, Bernard (Martha) Gregoris of Petaluma CA, and Sylvie (Chris) Beers of Petaluma CA; Her Father and Mother In-Law, David and Carol Stearns of Sonora, CA; Sisters In-Law, Karen (Nick) Chipponeri of Sonora CA, Kim (David) Loveland of Ceres CA, and Amy Williams of Sonora CA. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Jennifer Gregoris, Luke Gregoris, Angela and Nicolas Beers, Josh (Tiffany) Loveland, Nicole (Brian) Chipponeri Donnelly, Jeremiah (Courtney) Loveland, Jake (Kylie) Loveland, Hunter and Haley Williams, and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
