Nadine Vesta Haslett Leffler passed away on January 18, 2011 at the South Lyon Medical Center/LTC in Yerington, Nevada. She was 87.
Nadine was born in Roseville, California on February 28, 1923 the daughter of Clarence and Vesta Haslett. She was the first of one brother, who died at the age of 4 and three sisters, Marie, Anita and Nevada. Nadine helped her mother raise her sisters, in her early years by being a caregiver to the family. They moved to Silver City in the early depression years where Nadine helped her Mother who was raising 4 girls. She took on jobs that were far beyond her tender age, while in school she strived to the best student she could be. Nadine was active in the Episcopal Church and was a church worker at St. Peters in Carson City.
Nadine married Glen Albert Leffler on June 10, 1940, she raised three children, Edward, Vesta, and Verena. She was a homemaker, she enjoyed baking bread, making clothes, cooking and cleaning. Nadine moved to Hawthorne when the children were small, she had worked at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot as an Ordinance man, and was reassigned to another job on the base. When her husband retired in 1973 they made their home in Yerington. Nadine went back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, and had worked for Dr. Mary Fulstone. She worked as a nurse until the age of 72. Nadine went on to become a Deacon for the Episcopal Church at St. Albany she served as deacon for several years and was Ordained as an Episcopal Priest, she retired as a Priest at 82.
Nadine is survived by her children, Edward Leffler of Reno, NV, Vesta Pettengill of Yerington and Verena Arnett of Zachary, Louisiana; her 7 grandchildren, Henry Arnett, Edward Arnett, Vanessa Broaten, Vesta Arnett, Chad Still, Ian Geering and Heather Leffler; 9 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren; she was also survived by her little dog, Tiny Tim. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen, a grandchild, Verena Jones and her sister, June Hale-Byron.
Nadine's memorial service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, February 11, 2011 at the St. Albany Episcopal Church 12 North West Street Yerington. A reception will follow the service at the church.
