Nancy Irene (Pat) Carr Hamilton passed away Friday afternoon, December 8th, 2006 at the South Lyon Medical Center, Long Term Care in Yerington after a lengthy illness. She was an amazing 90 years old.
Pat was born in Hooper, Colorado on August 3, 1916 the daughter of Cora and Everett McCollum. It was in Colorado that she met and married Chester (Ches) W. Carr on November 8, 1933. Pat and Ches moved to Silver City, Nevada in 1942 and settled in Smith Valley in 1949. In 1973 Ches passed away and Pat moved to yerington. In Yerington she met and married her second husband Clayton (Ham) Hamilton. Ham passed away in September 2005.
When the days of PTA meetings and high school sports were over, Pat pursued her life long ambition of becoming a nurse. In 1965 she went back to school and with strong will and determination, she earned her nursing license. she spent the next 22 years at South Lyon Medical Center providing care to the citzens of Yerington and Smith Valley. during her active nursing career she served as President of the Nevada Licensed Practical Nurses Association where she was able to travel al around the United States representing the LPN's.
After retiring in 1987 she began spending her winters in sunny Arizona with Ham. She was always proud to serve as the resident nurse for all of her retired friends at the Lazy Dayz trailer park. While in Yerington she stayed active in the community by teaching childbirth classes, going to Beta Sigma Phi functions, volunteering with the hospital auxillary and hospice and attending her church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Carr; her grandsons, Steven and his wife, Linda Carr and Gene and his wife Kathy Carr; her granddaughters, Sandra Wertz and Beth McCloskey; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Marvin Carr, daughter, Carol Seal her brother Robert McCollum and her two husbands and parents.
A Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, December 15th, 2006 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Private family burial will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery.
