Obituary
Norma Jean Lessard, age 78, passed away at her home in Schurz surrounded by her family on Friday morning, November 10, 2017.
Norma was born in Schurz on February 9, 1939 the daughter of Raymond and Agnes (Quartz) Sammaripa. Norma was a veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps.
She worked many years as an Executive Secretary for the Mineral County School District. She was a lifetime member of the VFW All Indian Post #6825, she served on the US Census Bureau, the Walker River Paiute Tribal Education Board and Enrollment committee. She enjoyed traveling, attending PowWows, shopping and baking.
She is survived by her son, Anthony (Lauri Decker); her brothers, Reynold Sammaripa, Lorren Sammaripa; her sister, Joyce Sammaripa; her grandchildren, Veronica and Casey Sherman, Kristofer and Rachel Lessard. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ramona and brother, Raymond 'Duffy'.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 6 - 8:00 pm at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 15 at the Walker River Tribal Gym in Schurz with burial at the Schurz Cemetery.
