Olive Pearl Pursel passed away on Saturday afternoon November 19, 2016 at her home in Yerington. She was 88.
Olive was born November 7, 1928 in Drury, Missouri the daughter of Thomas and Eva Dobyns. Her family moved to her beloved Nevada when she was 16. She graduated from Yerington High School and attended the University of Nevada on a Harold Smith scholarship.
In June 1947 she married Lynn Pursel and together they raised three children, Karen, Tom and Vic.
Olive was employed by the Department of Agriculture for 34 years until her retirement in 1990. A true extrovert, she was active in her community. She served on the hospital board for South Lyon Medical Center, she was a lifetime member of Soroptimist International and a devoted member of the Community United Methodist church.
She is survived by her two children, Tom (Worth) Pursel and Victoria (Jim) Ward, grandchildren, Trudie Kibala, John Goodwill, Jamie Pursel Hanson, Brian Ward and Christopher Ward; great grandchildren, Dalia and Daniel Goodwill, Brendan, Trevor and Kylie Kibala, Janice and Alexandria Hanson, Riley, Wyatt, Brook and Raegan Ward; her siblings, Sue Bunch, Marilyn Romjue and Loren Dobyns; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lynn and daughter Karen Goodwill-Freda.
A Memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, December 10 at the Community United Methodist Church, 221 North Main Street Yerington. Donations may be made in her name to the Huntington Disease Society of America, 505 Eight Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.
