Ray "Tuti" Menesini a member of the pioneer Menesini family in Mason Valley passed away Wednesday morning, January 14, 2009 after a brief stay in the hospital. He was 78.
Ray was born in Yerington on June 6, 1930 the son of John and Marguerite (Pasquino) Menesini. Ray grew up on the Menesini Ranch, attended 8 years at the Barrett School before attending and then graduating from Yerington High School. He then helped his family run the ranch for fifteen years. In 1962, Ray, along with his Mother and two brothers purchased the variety store from Louie Rosaschi and shortly opened a fountain where he met his future wife, Teresa Jolin. Ray and Teresa were married in June 1966. In 1971, they purchased the fountain and changed the name to Ray and Terry's Home Cafe. the cafe closed its doors in 1978. After a four year retirement from the fountain, Ray took a job with Yerington Elementary School as the custodian. Ray enjoyed interacting with the children and teachers for 10 years, then retired in 1992. Since then, Ray has enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, yard work, and watching his children and grandchildren grow.
Ray is survived by his wife of 42 years, Teresa; and daughters, Lisa (David) Smith and Melissa Menesini; his grandchildren, Jessica, Garey, Angela, Travis and Candyce; his brother, Richard; nephews, Bob (Rita) Menesini, Jerry (Renee) Menesini, nieces, Nadine (Gerry) Boschert and Marianne (Jason) Baden. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Eugene.
A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm Sunday, January 18th at the Holy Family Catholic Church 37 N. West Street. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, January 19th at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at Casino West Convention Center.
Pallbearers will be Chris Berrington, Gerry Boschert, Bob Menesini, Jerry Menesini, David Smith and Garey Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Fraser, Neil Kirsh, Joe Lommori, Ron Nagel, Jack Pursel and Basil Quilici.
