It is with great sadness that the family of Regina Dini Perry announce her passing on December 31, 2011 after a brief illness. Born April 19, 1916, of Italian immigrant parents Edward and Cleonici Dini in Yerington,Nevada, she attended school in Yerington and married a local business man, Peter J. Perry She lived and worked her entire life in Yerington raising two sons, Victor Alan and Peter to appreciate family, friends and the rewards of hard work.
Regina was a remarkable woman. From the 1940s through the early 1970s, when there was no such thing as women's liberation. she ran at least three full time businesses. During this time, she made incredible sacrifices doing those tasks necessary to preserve her family during both good and bad economic times.
Gina was active in Perry Chevrolet, the Yerington Theatre, Sage Crest Drive-in theatre, Lyon Hotel and Bar and many smaller business enterprises too numerous to list. The nature of the businesses were such that she worked long hours 7-days a week. Yet she always found time for family and friends.
It is hard to find someone of a "certain age" who does not have a Gina Perry story. These range from her employees who universally praise her for "teaching them how to work", to young moviegoers who recall being caught trying to sneak into the Drive-in theatre, to young lovers who were often suddenly surprised with a bright light and a stern warning "not in my theatre". There are also unsubstantiated rumors that on occasion she would tap someone on the head with her flashlight to reinforce the message.
Gina always helped those who were less fortunate, often providing food, lodging and friendship when it was most needed. An ardent animal lover her home was also the home of last resort for animals, refusing to turn away any animal that was dropped on her doorstep. At one time she was caring for 18 dogs, 23 cats, 2 burros and a horse. She often stated that she wished that she had become a veterinarian.
Gina is survived by sons Victor Alan Perry and Peter A Perry, grandchildren Lars, Jelaine, Kip and Randolph, numerous great grandchildren, her sister Cleo "Dolly" Leonard, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and admirers all of whom have benefited from her life and all of whom will cherish the memories and lessons of this remarkable and wonderful woman.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in Gina's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of American, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, N.Y.,N.Y.,10001 or to a local chapter of The Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals.
