Richard 'Dick' Louis Mikkelson, Sr passed away at his home in Yerington on Sunday afternoon, April 11, 2010. He was 87.
Dick was born in Belvidere, New Jersey the son of Charles and Fanny (Haycock) Mikkelson. While serving in the U.S. Army he met Lorraine Burnet in Mountain Home, Idaho and they married in 1944. After many jobs and travels during their marriage they settled in Yerington, Nevada in the early 1950's where they raised two sons and a daughter.
Dick was a self employed businessman and retired in the late 1970's. He was a life long member of the Mason Masonic Lodge and Kerak Shrine. He spent his retirement years with Lorraine traveling the southwestern desert areas which they both loved very much and enjoyed. He had many stories to tell about their adventures together.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kelly of Madera, California, a son, Stephen Mikkelson of Reno; his grandchildren, Justin Mikkelson of Phoenix, Mandi Mikkelson of Reno; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Lorraine in 2005, his eldest son in 2006 and his brother, Charles.
In keeping with his wishes no service will be held. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association PO Box 1834 Marrifield, VA 22116 or the Shriners Childrens Hospital 2425 Stockton Blvd Sacramento, CA 95817.
