Rita J. Hicks, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister passed away at her Schurz residence with her family by her side on Sunday, November 5th, 2006. She was 87.

She was born October 19, 1919 in Schurz to Hattie and Pete Johnson. She has been a resident of Schurz her entire life. She was a devoted Mother of ten children, her family grew until she became a great great grandmother. She loved her family gatherings and spending time at home. She was employed for 30 years at the Schurz Hospital, Indian Services, as a nursing aid and retired from that position.

She was proceded in death by her husband, Delbert Hicks; sons Norman and Alvin (Chuck) Hicks, her parents; her brothers, Marco, Benson and Walter Johnson; sisters, Velda Johnson and Lolia McCloud. She is survived by her sons, Arthur Hicks, Leroy Hicks, Jonathan Hicks all of Schurz, Richard 'Dickie' Hicks of Owyhee, NV; her daughters, Alberta 'Cookie' Quintero, Elaine Montoya, Laverne Roberts and Patty Jean Hicks all of Schurz; her sisters, Mildred Rayborn of Tucson, AZ, Betty Reymus and Stella Cushman of Schurz; 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. There are not enough words to express what a loving and devoted person she was. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, November 9th at the Schurz Gymanasium. Interment will be at the Schurz Cemetery. A potluck will follow at the gymanasium.
