Robert 'Bob' J. McCormick passed away at his home in Yerington, Nevada on Thursday, March 22, 2012. He was 83.
Bob was born in Brawley, California on July 28, 1928 the son of Hazel (Payton) and Robert J. McCormick, Sr.. Bob was a Koren War veteran having served in the US Army, 40th Infantry Division. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge.
Bob had been married to Wanda and they had two sons, Robert J. McCormick III and Jerry McCormick. After they divorced in 1956, Bob and his second wife Sarah moved to Las Vegas where he worked as an Ironworker until he started his own company, Southern Nevada Steel. He spoke many times of working at the Nevada Test Site and being involved in the Structural Steel portion of construction of some of the Hotels during the 60's and 70's. In 1974 he moved to Hemet, California where he became a General Contractor building houses, but what he loved most was to move dirt with his tractors. He married Hilda in 1992 in Hemet, California and soon thereafter they bought a farm in Buhl, Idaho where they spent their happiest times. After some health problems they sold the farm and bought 10 acres in Yerington. Bob continued to grow a few acres of Alfalfa. Together they fixed up their house until Altzheimers disease took its toll on Bob.
Bob is survived by his wife, Hilda of Yerington; his sons Robert of Dallas, Texas and Jerry (Carla) McCormick of Montana; his daughters, Carolyn (Bill) New of Hemet, CA, Cindy (Philip) Dean of Houston, Texas, Bonnie (JC) Lizza of Bend, Oregon and Christina (Ed) Buergler of Highland, California; his sister, Ella Cisneros of Pueblo, Colorado; his grandchildren, Michele (Jason) Lechler, Mathew New, Kathryn New, Kiley Brant, Miranda Brant, Devon Lizza and Sinjin Lizza; his great grandchildren, Brandon Lechler and Nikki Lechler.
Bob Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208, Yerington.
