Robert "Bob" J. Mathews, 87, was born in Kerman, CA and moved to Yerington, NV as a young child. This wonderful town was his home until his death on Sunday, December 11, 2011.

At the young age of 19, Bob joined the Army Air Force where he served as a flight officer. Returning to Yerington, Bob married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Pauline in October of 1945. They were happily married for 57 years. He made his living as a general contractor and small business owner.

Bob was an active member of his community and involved with many clubs and associations such as, The Lions club, Holy Family Catholic Church, 20/30 club and was a volunteer Mason Valley firefighter. He was also one of the original members of the Mason Valley Country Club and a founding member of Walker River Bowman.

During his lifetime Bob enjoyed many favorite pastimes. To say he loved to hunt, fish or golf would be an understatement. He also spent free moments flying model airplanes, making clocks and enjoying the company of friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline, his brother Laurence, and parents Alfred and Velma Mathews. He is survived by his son Steven (Cindy), daughter Bobie Delaney (Michael), sister Eleanor Matheus, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews and countless other family and friends who will love and miss him dearly.

A celebration of his life will be held 10:00 am on Friday December 16, 2011 at The Holy Family Catholic Church. Reception to follow at The Catholic Center immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yerington Fire Department scholarship fund in loving memory of Bob Mathews, 118 S. Main Street, Yerington, NV 89447.
