Robert (Bob) Daniel Reavis passed away at the Renown Medical Center in Reno on Monday afternoon, October 1, 2012. He was 83.
Bob was born in Independence, Kansas on January 3, 1929 to Daniel Donald and Florence Esther (Howard) Reavis. Born in the Depression Era, his family moved from town to town, state to state searching for work. Eventually the family moved back to Ft. Scott, Kansas and then to Coffeyville, Kansas. Bob's only sibling, Sandra, was born when Bob was a teenager. Bob left Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville prior to receiving his diploma in order to enlist in the Army Air Corps. Bob served in the Air Force 24 1/2 years. He retired with the rank of Major. Bob married Barbara Austin in Coffeyville, Kansas in December 1950. Together they had two children. They divorced in December 1962. Bob then married Mary Anne Scott in Crestview, Florida in July 1963. Mary was the love of his life and they enjoyed 49 years of marriage together living in many different states. Bob and Mary moved to Yerington in 1991. They enjoyed travelling, fishing, and playing golf together. Civic organizations that Bob belonged to included the Masonic Lodge and Elks. Bob never forgot that he never finished high school. In the 1970's Bob earned his GED then went to college to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Bob died with his wife, daughter and son-in-law near his bedside at the Reno Renown Hospital on October 1, 2012. He was preceeded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne, daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and David Wheaton (Portland, OR), son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Julie Reavis (Phenix City, AL), grandson Steven Wheaton (Portland, OR), granddaughters Lisa Wheaton Mather and her husband Jeffrey (Milford, MA), Joey Reavis Vredenburgh and her husband Eddie (Columbus, GA), granddaughter Johnnie Reavis Byrd (Columbus, Ga), great-granddaughters Kamryn Vredengurgh, Bethany and Olivia Byrd.
At Bob's request there will not be a funeral. Instead a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you give a donation to the Shriner's Children Hospital.
