Robert (Bob) W. McKay passed away on Tuesday morning, May 25, 2010in Lancaster, California after a long battle with cancer. He was 59.
Bob was born and raised in Smith Valley and graduated from Smith Valley High School in 1970. He then moved to Lancaster, California where he married his life long love, Kaye. He went on to fulfill his dream of raising his family of three girls and persuing his dream as a horseshoer. Bob went on to furrier school and was well known for his ability of corrective horseshoeing. Later he returned home to Smith Valley to help his brother, Jim with the family ranches.
Bob is survived by his three daughters, Jeanne (David) Bendickson, Vicki McKay and Maggie McKay; a nephew, who Bob considered as his son, Jim (Sheila) Giovacchini; his six grandchildren; his sisters, Dixie (Berl) King, Mary Duhart and Jacqueline (Clay) Coburn; also numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim & Alta McKay and Chester & Edith Keeley; his parents, Mervin & Marjorie McKay and a brother, Jim McKay.
Bob's service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 at the Smith Valley United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
