Roger A.
Ames
December 8, 1931 – July 28, 2017
Roger Allen Ames passed away at his home in Yerington on Friday morning, July 28, 2017. He was 85.
Roger was born December 8, 1931 in Warwick, Massachusetts to Leon and Edythe Ames, he was the youngest of eight children. Roger's first job was working in the woods when he was just 12 years old and he continued working hard throughout his life. He apprenticed as a master craftsman and cabinet maker, became a licensed contractor and built his retirement home. He loved his old wood stove and fall days spent cutting and splitting wood.
Roger came west to Nevada in the fall of 1963 and settled in Yerington. He delivered milk and worked as a carpenter, but the lure of being a cowboy led him to work on ranches in the area. He learned to care for livestock, spent summers haying and enjoyed every part of farm life. He had a knack for growing things and always had a big garden and beautiful yard.
His wife, Patricia Ames, preceded him in death and he is survived by his companion of 10 years, Roberta Stahl. Roger had six children – Bruce, Linda, Mark, Colleen, Dana, Trina, and stepchildren. His son Bruce preceded him in death. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were a great joy to him.
