Our mother was born in Harrisburg, Oregon. It was in the midst of The Great Depression. Her mother, Carmen "Roberta" Whitaker named their daughter Roselyn Eloise Page. Her father, Archie Whitaker, soon moved the family to Southern California and they worked hard to provide a good life for their children. Eloise grew up alongside her older sister Shelley and her younger brother David. Later, her youngest brother Tom was born.
Mom met and eventually fell in love with a young sailor on Christmas day in 1948. His name was Ernest C. Page. In 1950, they eloped to Las Vegas, Nevada to be married. Upon their return, Ernest received orders to return to his ship, the USS Stickell. It was the outbreak of the Korean War.
Their daughter Victoria was born during those war years. Their first son, Ernest Page II was born shortly after the armistice. Their second son, Geoff was born two years later.
The 1950's became a wonderful time to be young and just starting out. They were living in a small home in Pasadena, California. There was a 1954 Oldsmobile parked outside and black and white television inside that Ernest Sr. purchased with his combat pay. By the end of the 50's, Mom and Dad moved us all to a wonderful home and life in Altadena, California. In 1976 our family moved to Yerington, Nevada.
Eloise was an avid collector and antique dealer. She loved collecting books. She also enjoyed making beautiful quilts and genealogy, but traveling was at the top of the list.
In the late 1980's, Eloise created The Nevada Bear Company. She designed her own pattern and brand. These collectible bears have been sold throughout the United States and around the world.
Roselyn and Ernest Sr. were a devoted couple for 66 years.
