Rosemary Peters passed away on Tuesday evening, February 19th, 2008 at the 'Just Like Home' assisted living facility in Yerington, Nevada. She was 93.
Rosemary was born September 4, 1914 in Ventura, California the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Hobson) Peters. Her family was part of the early days of California with one great grandparent having come from Baja California with Padre Junipero Serra in 1769 and the other with de Anza in 1776. She was raised on a ranch in Ventura in the style of those days of yore. After graduating from Holy Cross Nursing School in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1937, Rosemary practiced nursing in her hometown. On March 17, 1942 she joined the Army and served in the South Pacific until war's end. In 1946, Rosemary obtained her Public Health Nursing degree from UCLA and served as a public health nurse in Ventura County until her retirement in 1963. In the early '60s she returned to UCLA for her BS. She worked as a Headstart nurse in the Ventura schools from 1963 - 65 and for the next ten years cared for her ailing Mother.
Throughout her life, Rosemary's keen intellect, concern for others, active faith, good cheer and dedicated service sustained her immediate family and those in the communities of Ventura and Yerington. Rosemary and her sister, Elizabeth (Beta), moved to Yerington in 1975. Until no longer able, Rosemary was actively involved in every aspect of life in Yerington. Her days were spent helping others in any way she could. She eldersat and drove seniors, was a member of St. Anne's Guild,and was a 50 year member of Post #9 of the American Legion, she helped begin the Humane Society and volunteered at the museum and hospital. She was tireless and continuous in her outpouring of goodwill.
These last several years were made peaceful and comfortable by the wonderfull staff at "Just Like Home" where she will be missed. She is survived by her sister, Constance Haverkamp of Farmer's Branch, Texas, and by four sisters-in-law: Ann Peters of Ventura, CA., Val Peters of Taft, CA., JoAnn Peters of Santa Rosa, CA., and Lois Peters of Mountain Home, AZ. Merle Brown of Camarillo, CA., is her one surviving brother-in-law. She will also be sorely missed by her 23 beloved nieces and nephews, and by her many dear friends, whose lives she enriched.
A Rosary will be recited prior to the Mass at 10:30 am.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 1st, 2008 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 37 North West Street Yerington. Military honors will also be provided by the American Legion. A reception will be held at the Catholic Center following the mass provided by St. Anne's Guild. Her cremains will be buried in the family plot at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, California with services to be later this spring.
