Roy G. Aiazzi a native of Yerington passed away on Tuesday morning, November 28th at his son's home in Gardnerville after a short battle with cancer. He was 87.
Roy was born in Yerington on September 9, 1919, the son of Emilio and Vanelia Quilici Aiazzi. He was the fifth of ten siblings. He spent his entire life in Yerington. He was away only during his time he served in the US Navy (Sea Bees) during World War II. Roy was a member of the 1936 Yerington State Championship football team. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Italian Catholic Society, Yerington Volunteer Fire Dept., VFW, Yerington Rotary Club and the local golf Club. He was self employed for 25 years as a Standard Oil Wholesale Distributor of Petroleum products. After retirement he worked for the City of Yerington Public Works Department. Roy loved outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, gardening and bottle hunting.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cynthia Aiazzi of Gardnerville; brothers, Ray of San Diego, Leno of Reno, Pete and Reno (Gus) of Yerington; his sisters, Adena Pacini and Ruth Parsons both of Reno; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, his wife, Mary Aiazzi and daughter, Gail Aiazzi Soderstrom.
A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm Friday, December 1st at the Holy Family Catholic Church 37 N. West Street. Funeral Mass will be 9:00 am Saturday, December 2nd at the Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery.
