Obituary

Roy Francis Lerg, Jr. 77 of Smith Valley, went home to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 22, 2006 at South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington, Nevada.

He was born on May 22, 1929 to Roy F. Lerg, Sr. and Louise E.(Snell) Lerg in Monterey Park, CA. He grew up and attended schools in Covina and El Monte, CA. In 1946 he moved to Smith Valley with his parents to a farm. Roy loved farming beginning at a young age with working in his parents truck farm in California and later began his own farming career by leasing land from his parents and growing his first crop of potatoes.

In 1948, he married his wife of 58 years, Lola Acciari and they moved to Puente, CA., where he worked at Azusa Rock & Sand Company for two years. In 1951 they returned to Smith Valley where they began life as Nevada farmers. In 1960 they purchased a farm, part of which they still own and is now being developed into a subdivision by him and his son. A member of Smith Valley Baptist Church, his favorite pastime was reading and history.
Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed taking his grandsons hunting and fishing. Another special time for him was going with his son on his guided hunts as "camp cook". He and Lola enjoyed traveling to Portugal, Spain, France and Italy, where they located some of Lola's relatives. They traveled the U.S. from west to east on two occasions and discovered how "Blest- By the Lord" America has been. For 22 years, they spent winters in Arizona, Puerto Penasco and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Many wonderful friends that were found at these times are part of great memories, some of which are still exchanging letters.

He is survived by his wife, Lola; son, Roy D.(Debbie) Lerg; daughter, Jeanne M.(Lawrence) Thompson of Smith; brother, Dand Lerg(Faye)of Reno; sister, Marilyn Lang of Glendora, CA.; grandsons, Matthew Bryant of Reno; Beau Bryant(Emily)of Santa Barbara, CA; Emmet Lerg of Smith; granddaughter, Sarah Thompson of Smith; step-grandsons, Lawrence Thompson of Sacramento; Lowell Thompson of Reno; and Patrick(Bonnie) Griener of Reno; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Lucas Lerg.

In keeping with his wishes a private family graveside service was held at Hillcrest Cemetery with Pastor Travis Walker officiating. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Smith Valley Library.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Freitas Rupracht funeral Home, Yerington (775) 463-2911. An online guest book may be signed by family and friends at www.FRFH.net.
