Obituary

Roy 'Moose' Paul Masini passed away at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada on Tuesday evening, March 20, 2012. He was 86.

Roy was born in Yerington, Nevada July 18, 1925 the son of Irma and Rotillio Masini, both of whom, as young adults, and at separate times immigrated from Italy through Ellis Island. His Father never had the opportunity to meet his son, as he was killed in a mining accident near Yerington prior to Roy's birth. Eventually, Guido Diodati came to town and eventally became Roy's committed and faithful father.

One of Roy's favorite things to do growing up was to play tennis with the neighbor kids. It was this pastime that helped him to acquire the nickname of 'Moose'. When it was dinner time his Mother would call out his name to come home - Roy would ignore her calls and keep playing tennis, after several try's she would become angry and then call out, 'Moooselini' in reference to the hated dictator in Italy! It was then that he knew he had pushed her to the limit, and would hurry home. It didn't take long before his friends fondly gave him the name of 'Moose" and it stuck with him his entire life, some people never knew what his real name was. Roy stayed in Yerington and while still in high school was drafted in World War II and was sent to Europe, where he spent the next 2 years of his life. Upon his return he met and married the love of his life, Jean Smedly. They married in 1952 and remained so until her passing in 1997. after 10 years of marriage, they finally had their first and only child, a daughter, Lisa. Moose worked at a local meat packing plant, Ringsby Trucking, Anaconda Mine and retired from Lyon County Road Department. For many years he enjoyed bartending on the weekends at Gene's Silver Palace, Mason Valley Country Club and Dini's Lucky club. Some of Roy's hobbies included waterskiing, fishing, hunting and remore controlled airplanes. But what he was most interested and passionate about was his granddaughters, Monica, Angela and Laura Marraccini. Roy was a hands on grandfather. He was there to offer a hug, a joke, or perhaps much needed 'guidance talk'. He attended all of the events that his girls were in - everything from Christmas plays to sporting events - Papa was there - full of pride. Roy wanted to see all 3 of 'his girls' graduate from high school, but missed Laura's by two months. perhaps he will now have the best seat of all.

Roy was preceded in death by his Mother, Irma Masini Diodati, Father, Rottillo Masini and step-father, Guido Diodati, his sister, Angie Pounds and grandson, Tyler. Roy is survived by his daughter, Lisa Marraccini, granddaughters, Monica, Angela and Laura, his former son-in-law, Darrell Marraccini; nieces, Donna (Moses) Ludel, Michelle (George) Schaut; Nephews, Tom (Judy) Booth, Rick Booth, Willie (Cindy) Booth and numerous great nieces and nephews.

His absence has left a huge void in our lives, but he lives on in our memories. We do not cry because it's over, we smile because it happened!
