Sandra Stone Sargent passed peacefully on Monday afternoon, June 22, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Carson City, Nevada. She was 71 years old.

Born in Schurz, Nevada on October 21, 1948, the only child of Marjorie (Stevens) and Thurman Stone. While her parents worked for the Hawthorne Base she was raised in Hawthorne, Nevada, and eventually graduated from Hawthorne High School. She attended Cal Berkeley and the University of Nevada, Reno, and Reno Business College. Sandra married Robert Sargent. Jr.in December 1970, they resided together in Carson City, Nevada for almost fifty years. For a short time, she worked at the Stewart Indian School; before moving on to the Department of Interior.   There she worked in Tribal Operations Division of the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 43 years of service, before retiring.  Her kindness and extensive knowledge in tribal matters of enrollment, tribal elections and tribal lineage, made her well known in the Indian country and to the Nevada Tribes in particular. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, while shopping, traveling, attending Pow-Wows, sporting events, and family events.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Sargent Jr.; her son Randy Sargent, his wife Dena, and their daughter Kali Sargent (Gardnerville); her uncle Thomas Benjamin (Yerington); her aunt Arlene Benjamin and her niece Laurie Thom (Yerington) and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Marjorie and Thurman Stone, and many aunts and uncles from Bishop, California, and Yerington, Nevada.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the Valley View Cemetery - Paiute Tribal Cemetery Section in Yerington, Nevada. An outdoor reception will be held following the service at Mountain View Park, Yerington, Nevada.
