Obituary

Shirley Ann Fielding passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada from lung complications. She was 71.

She was born January 11, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Harold and Mary McCallum. She was raised in Detroit. She was widowed with 3 young children and one on the way when she landed in Los Angeles, California in 1960. There she met the love of her life, Clifford John Fielding. They met and married and added two more children to the fold. Cliff was a lineman and Shirley would set up camp for him wherever he happened to be working. Most summers the whole family would spend camping throughout California and Nevada. One summer they camped in several different sites around Lyon County. They fell in love with Mason and decided to move there to finishing raising their family in 1968. Shirley was employed as a bus driver for the Lyon County School District for three years and worked at the Anaconda Copper Mine for several years before it closed in 1975. Shirley was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1094 and the Lyon County Democratic Women's Club for many years. She was also a strong supporter for the ALIVE program when it first began in Yerington.
Shirley was a strong, independent woman who lived on her own terms. After her husband's passing she worried she might die alone. That fear was not realized as she had so many who loved and cherished her. She died peacefully with her children and her sister by her side. We were her zoo and she was our zookeeper.

Shirley is survived by her sister, Judy (Dave) Reyes of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; her children; Michael of Crescent City, CA, Paula (Steve) Joslyn of Grand Forks, ND, Theresa (Gary) Park of Yerington, Daniel (Dorena) Colombo of Monticello, Indiana, John (Melissa) of Yerington, Casey Butcher of Idaho Falls, ID; her grandchildren, Chris (Michelle), Kelly (Keone), Jenni (Nate), Joshua Paul (Annie), Reema (Randy), Kodi, Megan, Rayma Anne (Danny), Wrenn, Johnny, Nicholas and Jessica. 17 great grandchildren; her nephews, Chris (Jenny), David (Brenda), Robert (Michelle) and Larry; her niece, Mary K.; and her Foster daughter, Sherry (aka, Susy) Hall and her two sons, Kitt Henry and Keith (Jennifer) Henry and daughter, Angela of Fernley. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cliff who passed away on April 23, 1998.

A Celebration of Life for Shirley will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, March 21st, 2009 at the Yerington Fire Department 118 South Main Street Yerington.
