Susannah "Sue' Hall Ward DeChambeau passed away Saturday afternoon, December 6th, 2008 at the South Lyon Medical Center/Long Term Care in Yerington. She wa 96.
Sue was born in Mill Valley, California on August 24, 1912 the daughter of Roy and May Ward. She graduated from Stanford University in 1935. On June 28, 1952 she married the love of her life, Lawson K. DeChambeau in Mill Valley, California. They moved to Weed Heights in 1954 where Lawson worked for Anaconda Copper Mine.
Sue loved her family and friends, and Sue loved the outdoors and animals. Sue was very active in the community starting with being a room Mother, a Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She and Lawson was very active with the Lyon County Riders who helped establish the Lyon County Fairgrounds. After her children graduated from high school, she became very active politically, attending many Lyon County Commissioner meeetings. She wrote many lettters to the editor and will be remembered by her columns for the Republicans, the Museum and mining. She loved learning and had taken oil painting classes and many community college classes including geology and poetry.
Sue is survived by her children, Lee and her husband Bill Cox and Jim DeChambeau.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, December 11th at the Yerington Vineyard Fellowship Church 307 Broadway Yerington. A reception will follow the service to be held at the Odd Fellows Hall 101 North Main Street.
