Obituary

Ugo Giorgi passed away on Saturday morning, June 16, 2012 at the Carson Tahoe Medical Center in Carson City, Nevada after a lengthy illness. He was 83.

Ugo was born March 7, 1929 at his parent's ranch, Ugo and Dina (Galantuomini)Giorgi, which is located in the Pumpkin Hollow area of Mason Valley where he lived his entire life. Ugo attended local schools and served as student body President of his senior class of 1945 - 46. He was awarded the John Polish award for football and track. He attended University of Nevada, Reno for 2 years and was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa. He was called home to help his parents while his brothers, Evo and Elmo were in the service during World War II and Korean War to work on the Pumpkin Hollow Farms. In 1952 he married Florence Ann Masini who lived a couple of miles from the ranch. They raised two children, Vivian and Donald.

Ugo served on many boards including the Farm Bureau, US Soil Conservation Service, Farmers Home Administration and helped form along with others the Nevada Hay Growers Association. Socially, he was a past member of the 20 - 30 Club, Yerington Lions Club, and Yerington Rotary Club. Ugo was most proud of his appointment to the United States Board of Water Commissioners in 1967 and served for 25 years. During that time he was also appointed to the Cal-Nev Interstate Compact Commission and the Bureau of Reclamation in Sacramento, California.

Ugo is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Florence; his daughter, Vivian and her husband Chris Macek of Las Vegas, Nevada and his son, Donald and his wife, Lynda Giorgi; his grandchildren, Amanda (Larry) Woods and his great grandson, Owen all of Battle Creek, Michigan, Ken (Melinda) Vicencio of Ely, Nevada, Kara Giorgi currently attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona; his only remaining brother, Baldo and his wife Sandi Giorgi of Topaz; his brother-in-law, Norman Pursel of Yerington, and sister-in-law, Maxine Giorgi of Camarillo, California; and many cousins, nieces and nephews here in the United States and Italy.

A Rosary will be recited 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 19th and the Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Wednesday, June 20th both at Holy Family Catholic Church 37 N. West Street Yerington, NV. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the Catholic Center.
