Virginia Elizabeth Johnston Brooks passed away peacefully October 19, 2009 at the St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno with her husband at her side. She was 87.
Our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother was born December 17, 1921 the daughter of Charles B. and Marie (Roffall) Johnston in Houston, Texas.
With a sunny smile Mom was an accomplished seamtress, chef, hostess, gardener, fisherwoman, camper and star on her Milby High School basketball team. She spent many hours volunteering at the Shrine of the True Cross in Dickinson, Texas and at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Yerington, Nevada. She was also a member of the St. Anne's Guild. She was a domestic engineer extraodinaire. Virginia will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband of over 64 years who was the love of her life, James; her children, Sharon and husband Chris Baker, Nancy and husband John Boswell, Charles and his wife Claudia and Rev Robert Brooks; her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her sister, Frances Marie Dinklage and brother, Mike Johnston and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Alice Knoles; her brothers, Clarence K. Johnston, Charles B. Johnston, Jr. and Joseph E. Johnston.
Virginia's Rosary will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, October 22nd at the Holy Family Catholic Church 37 North West Street Yerington. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Friday, October 23rd at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will be in the family plot at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas. A reception will follow the Mass at the Catholic Center provided by St. Anne's Guild.
