Obituary
Walter L. Shipley passed away on Friday evening, July 27, 2012 at the South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington, Nevada. He was 86.
Walter was born in Centralia, Washington on December 20, 1925 the son of Claude L. and Delfa Lillie (Gans) Shipley. Walt lived in Richland, Washington until joining the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was discharged in December 1945. In the Navy he served as a Fireman First Class and received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with five stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 star, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
On February 17, 1946 he married Helen LaRose Baker who was from Emmett, Idaho and from this union two children were born, Walter Donald and Judy LaRose. They moved to Winlock, Washington, then to Idaho and then in 1954 moved to Los Angeles, California. There Walter attended the Foursquare Life Bible College and graduated as a Reverend in 1957. He pastored in Nampa, Idaho and in Pendleton, Oregon. While living in Pendleton he also worked for the City of Pendleton, retiring there after 22 years in 1984 He then began full-time RV'ing for 15 years, finally settling in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. They recently moved to Yerington, Nevada to be close to his son.
Walter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen L. Shipley; his son Walter D. Shipley of Yerington, Nevada and his daughter, Judy Lakey of Payette, Idaho; two brothers, Ervin Shipley of Selah, Washington and James Shipley of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Verna Rollins of Packwood, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Walter's funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada. Burial will be held Monday, August 6th at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.
