Warren 'Gene' Hunter passed away on Friday morning, March 23, 2012 at the Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. He was 81.

Gene was born in San Fernando, California on August 25, 1930 the son of Edwin and Sylvia (Hayworth) Hunter. Gene was a veteran having served in the US Army.

Gene came to Yerington in 1953. He married Laura Francesconi in Yerington on February 12, 1956. He worked for the Anaconda Mine until 1978 and then went to Alaska where he worked until 1986 when he retired. Gene and Laura then moved to Vancouver, Washington and in 1993 they returned to Yerington. Gene loved flying and he also gave flying lessons.

Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laura; his children, Steve and his wife Lana and Stacy and her husband Glenn Nelson; his six grandchildren and his nephew, Mark Hunter.

Gene's funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208, Yeringon, Nevada. A reception will follow the service at the Catholic Center.
