William C. "Bill" Smith passed away January 26, 2016 in Yerington, Nevada. He was 90.

He was born on December 30, 1925 in Simpson, Nevada to George Chester smith and Lola O. Jones, and was the youngest of five children. Bill grew up in Smith Valley and graduated from Smith Valley High School. He joined the US Navy after high school serving in the Pacific. He honorably discharged after two years at the end of World War II. He was also a charter member of the VFW Post 8084 for over 50 years.

In 1958, Bill married Janice Sheldon. They moved to Yerington in 1961. Bill owned and operated his heavy equipment business until retirement in 1988.

Bill was preceded in death by his son, Owen in 1959, his mother and father, three brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his widow, Janice, sons Grant (Julie), Kevin (Shawna), David (Lisa) and daughter Leslie (Mike), grandchildren Rodney (Neysia), Travis (Mary), Brian (Tarah), Jenne (Cody), Jessica (Jesse), Garey (Leann), Angela (Michael), William, Matthew (Abby), Michael (Mandy), Eric (Alyce), six great grandchildren, Mason, Hayden, Rowdy, Tilly, Payton, Noah and numerous nieces and nephews.
We could not be more proud and honored to have him in our lives and for so many years.
