Winnifred 'Winnie' Edna Ivey passed away at 'Just Like Home' resident facility in Yerington, Nevada on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. Winnie was 95.
She was born in Bridgewater Maine to Claude and Nellie Thistle on October 5, 1917. As a small child she moved with her family to Lomita, California where she graduated from Narbonne High School. She met Oscar Hearrell Ivey, they were married on September 8, 1940 and had three children: Jean, Lee and John. The family lived in the cities of Mariposa, Atascadero and Knights Landing, California where Oscar was an independent telephone company owner before finding their home in Yerington. They owned and operated the Walker River Telephone Company, sold the business and became ranchers which turned into a family endeavor. Winnie was an active member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, a volunteer and member of the Board for the Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Women's Group as well as the Board for the Methodist Church. She was a very talented knitter and quilter and rarely missed her Tuesday sewing group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean and grandsons Richard, Edmond and Paul; a son, Lee (Karen) and granddaughter Corinne and grandson Mark; son, John (Linda) and granddaughter Cory and grandson Roger. She is also survived by 21 great grandchildren.
Winnie's Funeral service will be held 11:00 Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Yerington Community United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family plot at Valley View Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the Casnio West Convention Center.
Pallbearers were Mitch Burns, Matthew Dean, Mark Ivey, Roger Ivey, Ed Recanzone, Paul Recanzone, and Richard Recanzone. Honorary Pallbearers were Jonathan Dean, Benjamin Ivey, Drew Ivey, Samuel Ivey, Zachary Ivey and Ryan Recanzone.
