Obituary

Yvette Paula Gregoris passed away on Saturday April 2, 2016 of natural causes after 86 years of living an active life to the very end.

Yvette was born July 31, 1929 in a small rural village, Labastide, near the city of Toulouse in the South West of France. It was in the village where she met her future husband, Angelo Gregoris, and they were married on September 4, 1948. While living in France they had their first three children Gerard, Nicole and Michel. In 1955 they had the opportunity to move to Castro Valley, California to begin a new chapter of their life and the family grew with the birth of three more children Monique, Bernard, and Sylvie.

In 1972 Angelo and Yvette had the opportunity to move to Oakdale California, to pursue their dream of returning to a rural area to live. While living in Oakdale she continued to raise her family and worked as a cook in a local elementary school and as a caterer. No matter the task at hand, Yvette put forth her best efforts and took pride in her work. She created delicious dishes that many people enjoyed.

During the early 1970's Angelo and Yvette first visited Smith Valley and a seed was planted in their mind that this would be a good place to live someday. This seed germinated for many years until 1990 when they made a decision to leave the Oakdale area for the wide, open area of Smith Valley along with their son Michel, purchasing a farm to grow alfalfa.

The desire of wanting to live closer to their parents and raise their children in this area, Monique and Marty Stearns and their two sons Guy and Frank made a home here, followed by Gerard and LorAnne with their son Luke. In 2002 Angelo died unexpectedly and from this time on her son, Michel, continued to live and work on the farm with her. It was this beautiful valley where she lived out her life. During this time she maintained contact with friends and family outside of the area, as well as making many new friends in the Smith Valley area.

Her strong character and tenacity gave her the strength to work through the struggles that come with life; humility making her easy to be with, the gift of humor for some good times and good laughs, and a person you could go to in your time of need. Yvette was an amazing person and a pillar of the family. She will be missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Angelo Gregoris, brother Raoul Barrau, and her mother and father Julien and Elise Barrau. She is survived by her children: Gerard (LorAnne) Gregoris of Smith Valley, Nicole Gregoris of Oakdale, Michel Gregoris of Smith Valley, Monique (Martin) Stearns of Smith Valley, Bernard (Martha) Johnson of Petaluma CA, and Sylvie (Chris) Beers of Petaluma. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer Gregoris, Elliot Johnson, Luke Gregoris, Guy Stearns, Frank Stearns, Angela Beers and Nicolas Beers. In addition: Nieces Marie (Bob) Henderson of Carson City, Elisabeth (Michael) Schaffer of Castro Valley CA, Alma Gregoris of Las Vegas and Nephew Louis (Ito) Gregoris of Castro Valley CA. and many great nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by family members in France: Sister: Clementine Bergamin, Brother and Sister-in-laws: Benito and Marie Gregoris, and Angele Gregoris and many wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, all who were loving and welcoming during her visits to France.
